Street: Jeanne Dr Hastings Mi Zip Code: 49058 County: Barry Longitude: -85.334736 Latitude: 42.671045 Public/Private:
Acreage: 240 Description: Algonquin Lake is located in Rutland Township in central Barry County. This is a popular man made Michigan lake consists of 240 acres of surface waters with reported depths of 45 feet. It is a private lake with no known public access. On the southwest side of the lake alond Hammond Drive, one will notice the dam with the overflowing waters spilling down the spillway. Next door is the lakefront Algonquin Lake Party Store, a small market that carries all of your weekend supplies. Stoping in for an ice cold Orange Crush, the friendly clerk thanked me and then returned to gaze out the large picture window overlooking the dock and lake. Having a great view must make work much more pleasant! On the northern side of the lake Camp Algonquin, a YMCA camp, is located . I like their motto: “I am third.” Having summer programs since 1946 and year round use since 2002, the camp has been making memories in the lives of the attendees for many years. We think, generally speaking, camps make good neighbors. What do you think? |

Innacurate report

Iroquios Trail traveled to West State Road where the water flowed over the dam or 'spillway', beside the Algonquin Lake Party Store. Hammond Road was further up Iroguios Trail, on the north side of the lake.
I grew up on North shore Algonquin Lake between '77 to '89. I could see the boat launch and store in the distance. View some early morning photos of Algonquin Lake at pbase.com/orangecones/boop The short story "Where I'd Rather Be" also is set on this lake.
