schoolsectionlake2School Section Lake Park is on the lakefront of School Section Lake in central Mecosta County. This Michigan lake offers 126 acres of surface waters with reported depths up to 33 feet. A scenic island is located in the center of the lake.

An eighty five acre county park located directly on the lake, features a great sandy swimming beach, 160 camp sites with water and electric hookups, horse shoes, basketball courts, volleyball, a disc golf course and four picnic shelters.

schoolsectionlakeThe entrance to the park you will notice the old one room School Section school.

Located within the campground isThe Family Group Camp. This camp consists of six 18x 24 cabins, each sleeping 10-12 people. The camp has a 30 x 40 log lodge with electric, kitchen and a dining hall that seats up to 100 people. The camp is available for rent is used by all kinds of groups including Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, school groups, church groups, family reunions, high school reunions, 4H groups and many others.

Having a county park on a Michigan Lake is usually unwelcome by the lakefront property owners, but this park seems to be an exception. I have talked to several property owners over the years, and I have heard no complaints.

We stopped here on this lake on our way to Uncle Herb’s cabin on our way to Traverse City. We hope to be there by Friday evening. Will send you a post when we get there. Say hi to your family from us. All is well.

Re-visiting a past memory
by Bob Johnson
on August 6, 2020
Our class at SHA had our Senior Day at the County Park in 1968. Haven't seen it since then. My family used to spend pleasant days there earlier. Will try to re-visit in late Sept., 2020. Can't wait! I live in Texas now, but it will be good to see some of the past, though I expect it has changed a lot.
