Description: Duck Lake State Park is located in Fruitland Township, Muskegon County. This 728 acre state park is the former home of a Boy Scout camp. In 1988 it originally opened as Duck Lake State Park. The park boasts over a mile of lake frontage on the northern shore of Duck Lake, a 250 plus acre Michigan lake. The lake is fed by Todd Creek and empties out by a narrow channel into Lake Michigan. A dam constructed under Scenic Drive prevents access into Duck Lake from Lake Michigan. The park also fronts on Lake Michigan, with about 2600 feet of sandy lake frontage to enjoy, or one can enjoy the towering sand dunes. The park is considered a day use park only, with no camping sites offered or allowed. There is a picnic shelter, picnic tables, grills and a beach house. The acreage is wooded and is home to deer, rabbit, woodcock, pheasant, geese and duck. Fishermen spending time on the lake can expect to be rewarded with Bluegill, Rock Bass, Crappie, and Panfish. Duck Lake State Park is in a very convenient location with Whitehall five miles north and Muskegon seven miles to the south. As for other nearby lakes, White Lake is two miles to the north and Muskegon Lake is five miles south. Michigan is so fortunate to have so many State Parks as well as so many lakes to enjoy. |
