Acreage: 790 Lake Amenities:
Description:
Municipal sewer was installed around the lake a few years ago, greatly improving water clarity. This also enabled home owners who wanted to expand or remodel, but were unable to due to constraints on septic systems. At that time, many old, aging, tired cottages were replaced with new. You can find every type of housing on this Michigan lake; from a forty year old trailer to high- end year around homes. When looking for lakefront property, you are often able to find a good value on this lake. The lake does have an association for lake maintenance. Many enjoy the fishing on Chippewa Lake. Black Crappie, Bluegill, Large and Small Mouth Bass, Walleye, Rock Bass, Pumpkinseed, Northern Pike and Yellow Pike are all found here. The DNR provides a pretty standard public access on the east side of the lake with plenty of parking, boat launch and restroom facilities. It is well marked just north of 20 Mile Road. Chippewa Lake is conveniently located 17 miles north and east of Big Rapids, Michigan.

I’m on the SW shore of Chippewa Lake and I’m looking for another (bigger) place right now. I’ve looked at hundreds of places on nearly ever lake in Mecosta County and all the surrounding counties, as well. No other lake around that part of Michigan compares with Chippewa. There are many nice lakes, but none that are big enough to really call “all-sports” except Chippewa, even though many realtors now call any lake over 80 acres an all-sports lake. If you’re looking for an ideal lake, with a perfect commute from Lansing or Grand Rapids, this is it !
P.S. The weed control district was just renewed by property owners in November of 2008, which means excellent fishing and boating for at least another ten years )

Mecosta County’s largest lake, Chippewa Lake, is a 790 acre lake with reported depths up to 45 feet. This well built up Michigan Lake is home to many year around residents. The seasonal residents come from all over Michigan and it can be a very busy lake in the summer.
