Branch County is home to several Michigan lakes, including the 288 acre Morrison Lake. This very popular lake, located just north of Coldwater, boasts depths of 50 plus feet.

Morrison Lake is part of a chain of 7 Michigan lakes totaling over 1074 acres of water. This chain of lakes is known as the Randall-Morrison Chain.

Fishermen tell of excellent fishing. Most noticeable are largemouth bass, small mouth bass and northern pike. The chain of lakes lake is home to several fishing tournaments each year.

There is no known public access to Morrison Lake. There is, however, public access to adjoining Craig Lake, a 122 acre lake just off Stevens Shores Dr. There is limited parking and vault style toilets. Ramp is hard-surfaced, but launching larger boats may be a bit difficult.

Everything you need is available in beautiful Coldwater; Wal-Mart, Meijer’s and all the fast food places. Your plans should include visiting the local summer theater for a nice evening out.

A recent search of properties available on Morrison Lake showed a vacant lot for $129,900

Dear Aunt Josephine, How are you and all? We are well, momma is getting better. When are you coming up, we will have fun on this lake. I have 33 sparrow eggs at the hen house. Love Frank”  dated 6/22/1919

Morrison Lake, Coldwater, Mich. Postcard

The post card depicted and titled Morrison Lake, Coldwater, Mich. shows a photograph taken in the 1910's. The cottage shown is the old Branch Cottage. Built by J. B. Branch in 1887, he was the owner of J. B. Branch and Company, a long time retail store in downtown Coldwater. The cottage played host to the author and creator of Tarzan of the Apes, Edgar Rice Burroughs. Burroughs was an in-law of the Branch's and found Morrison Lake to be a relaxing get away from the turmoil of turn of the century Chicago, Illinois. The cottage still stands.
